QuRouter 2.6

2025-06-26

QuRouter 2.6 brings many new features to enhance security and improve the performance of your router. You can now benefit from IPS, IPv6 DDNS, segment-level firewall control, backhaul internet traffic and much more. See What's New to learn about main features to learn about other features, enhancements, and changes. We also include fixes for reported issues and provide information about known issues.

IPS support for QNAP QHora routers and QuWAN vRouters

QNAP QHora routers running QuRouter firmware version 2.6 or later and QuWAN vRouter devices running version 2.8 or later now support Intrusion Prevention System (IPS) integration. IPS can only be configured and managed through QuWAN Orchestrator when these devices are operating on the specified firmware versions. This feature enables both platforms to detect and block network threats in real time using the IPS signature ID database maintained by Lionic Corporation.

IPS works by inspecting network traffic, identifying known threat patterns based on signature IDs, and taking predefined actions when a match is found. Detected events are logged, and malicious traffic is denied to improve network security.

A dedicated IPS dashboard is available in QuWAN Orchestrator for eligible QNAP QHora routers and QuWAN vRouters. It offers real-time threat monitoring, incident logs by signature ID, detection frequency tracking, and active security alerts.

This release includes a free trial of the IPS feature for eligible devices.

DDNS support for IPv6 networks

QuRouter now supports Dynamic DNS (DDNS) for IPv6 networks. This feature allows you to register and automatically update domain names that resolve your router’s IPv6 address, ensuring consistent remote access even when the address changes. It improves network accessibility in IPv6-enabled environments without requiring static IP assignments. You can monitor DDNS status and review update logs directly in the QuRouter web interface.

Segment-level firewall rule application and device management

QuRouter now supports applying firewall rules at the segment level, allowing you to enforce consistent security policies on specific devices within a segment. This capability improves efficiency by simplifying rule management across multiple devices grouped in the same segment. You can also move devices between segments or add new QuWAN devices to maintain flexible and organized network segmentation.

Note that custom firewall rules take precedence over segment firewall rules. For detailed information on rule priority and processing order, see https://www.qnap.com/go/how-to/faq/con_show.php?cid=3025.

Backhaul internet traffic routing for unified policy management

QuRouter now supports backhaul internet for routers added to a QuWAN network. When configured via QuWAN Orchestrator, designated devices can route their internet-bound traffic through a central hub router.

Backhaul internet enables unified traffic inspection, consistent policy enforcement, and streamlined internet access control across distributed network environments. By directing traffic through the hub, you gain improved visibility and enhanced security for internet-bound data within your network.

Note: Backhaul internet will be introduced in QuRouter 2.6 Beta 2.
