Why is the compression ratio “1.00x” in the command line interface even when compression is enabled?
If “Record Size” is set to 4K (i.e, setting the performance profile to “VDI” or “VMware” for a shared folder; “VDI” for an iSCSI LUN; or selecting “Custom” and then “4K”), even though compression is enabled and 4K data is being compressed, an entire 4K block is still needed to store the data. In other words, compression has no effect on the size of a 4K block.
The Write Coalescing and Data Compaction feature introduced in QES 2.1.0 combines two or more chunks of compressed data into a single 4 KB physical block before writing the data blocks onto drives, reducing the amount of space being used. Regardless, the compression ratio will still be 1.00x.
