Applicable Products
QTS 5.2.8 and later, QuTS hero 5.2.8 or later, NVIDIA GPU Driver 6.2.2 and later
Overview
After updating NVIDIA GPU Driver to version 6.2.2 or later, one or more of your NVIDIA GPUs may become disabled and unused by your system. This is because, starting in the 515 NVIDIA driver release series, two types of NVIDIA Linux GPU kernel module drivers are available, proprietary and open-source, and only one driver type can be used on your system at a time.
| NVIDIA GPU Driver Type | Supported NVIDIA GPU Series | Supported NVIDIA GPU Architectures |
|---|
| Proprietary | GTX 10, GTX 16, RTX 20, RTX 30, RTX 40 | Volta and earlier |
| Open-source | GTX 16, RTX 20, RTX 30, RTX 40, RTX 50, RTX Pro | Turing and later |
Tip
The open-source driver is the default and suggested driver type for NVIDIA GPU drivers starting from the 560 NVIDIA driver release series.
Due to NVIDIA driver limitations, both driver types cannot be used at the same time, and your QNAP device must select one driver type based on what kind of GPUs are installed. GPUs that do not support the selected driver type are then disabled and not used by your system.
GPU Driver Selection Behavior
- If one GPU is installed:
- If the GPU is a GTX 10 series or older: the proprietary driver is selected
- If the GPU is a GTX 16 series or newer: the open-source driver is selected
- If multiple GPUs are installed:
- If any GPU supports the open-source driver: the open-source driver is selected.
If the system selects the open-source driver type, GPUs that do not support the open-source driver are disabled. - If no GPUs support the open-source driver: the proprietary driver is selected
Recommendation
If you have multiple GPUs, to ensure all GPUs are used by your QNAP device, the following configurations are recommended:
Configuration 1: Install GPUs that only support the proprietary driver
- Install GPUs that only support the proprietary driver (GTX 10 series or earlier).
- Remove GPUs that support the open-source driver (RTX 16 series and later).
- Restart your QNAP device.
The system will automatically select the proprietary driver.
Configuration 2: Install GPUs that only support the open-source driver
- Install GPUs that support the open-source driver (RTX 16 series and later.
- Remove GPUs that do not support the open-source driver.
- Restart your QNAP device.
The system will automatically select the open-source driver.

- 安装仅支持专有驱动程序的 GPU(GTX 10 系列或更早)。
- 移除支持开源驱动程序的 GPU(RTX 16 系列及更晚)。
- 安装支持开源驱动程序的 GPU(RTX 16 系列及更晚)。
