Overview
Security Center protects your NAS by detecting abnormal file activities and may warn of ransomware or other malicious behaviors. One of its protective actions is “Set this shared folder to read-only mode”. When enabled, this action is triggered automatically if the number of abnormal file activities in a monitored shared folder exceeds the defined threshold. This helps contain potential damage.
However, to ensure service continuity and stability in a High Availability (HA) setup, this action behaves differently in HA mode, compared with Standalone mode. This FAQ explains how the feature functions in both configurations.
Limitations
The “Set this shared folder to read-only mode” action behaves differently depending on whether your NAS is running in standalone mode or in HA mode.
Configuration | Supported | Behavior |
---|
Standalone Mode | Yes | - When abnormal file activity exceeds the configured threshold, and the action is enabled, Security Center will automatically set the affected shared folder to read-only mode. - This helps stop further potential data loss or corruption. |
HA (High Availability) Mode | No | - Even if the action is configured, Security Center will not set the shared folder to read-only mode when abnormal activity occurs. - This restriction is in place to preserve HA system stability and avoid conflicts between active and passive nodes. |
After HA Is Disabled (Reverts to Standalone) | Yes | - Once the NAS is no longer in an HA configuration, the action will function normally again. - If abnormal file activity is detected beyond the threshold, the shared folder will be set to read-only as configured. |
This limitation in HA mode is designed to ensure high availability and operational integrity.
