The Network Connectivity Status Indicator (NCSI) service is a system utility designed to verify internet connectivity and display the corresponding status. Users have the option to select different NCSI service configurations based on their QTS or QuTS hero version.
QTS 5.0.1, QuTS hero h5.0.1, and earlier
The NCSI service exclusively utilizes the QNAP NCSI Server as the checking target. This configuration is applicable solely when the system is configured to automatically select the default gateway. Users have the option to enable or disable the NCSI service.
QTS 5.1.0 and QuTS hero h5.1.0
The system requires the NCSI service to be enabled when the default gateway is automatically selected. However, users retain the flexibility to choose from various checking targets.
QTS 5.2.0, QuTS hero h5.2.0, and later
Users can choose to enable or disable the NCSI service regardless of whether the system default gateway is selected automatically or manually configured by the user.
Post-Update Considerations
- During the upgrade process to 5.2.0 or later, the NCSI service status is preserved based on the previous configuration.
- It is essential to note that if the NCSI service was enabled in a version prior to 5.1.0 with a manually selected system default gateway, updating to 5.2.0 or later might result in an unexpected disconnection of the selected gateway due to the NCSI service's behavior. To rectify this issue, you can simply disable the NCSI service.
