Applicable Products
- QNAP QSW switch series (especially scenarios where model names such as QSW-1208-8C and QSW-M1208-8C are easily confused)
Root Cause
Only managed QSW switch models provide a web management interface. Managed models typically include “-M-” in the model name (for example, QSW-M1208-8C). Unmanaged QSW models do not provide any web administration page and can only be used as plug-and-play switches.
Overview
- Unmanaged switch
- Plug-and-play design with no web administration page.
- Intended for basic connectivity where advanced control is not required.
- Typical limitations: no VLAN or LACP policy management in a web UI, and no centralized administration.
- Managed switch
- Provides a management interface (web UI and model-dependent management features).
- Supports advanced configuration such as VLAN segmentation, LAG/LACP, QoS, monitoring, and firmware management.
- Suited for environments that need policy control, troubleshooting visibility, and lifecycle maintenance.
Solution
Step 1: Confirm that your switch is a managed QSW model
Check the model name printed on the device label. Managed QSW models include “-M-” in the model name (for example, QSW-M1208-8C).
If your switch is an unmanaged QSW model, it does not provide a web management interface. You can use it for basic network connectivity, but you cannot configure it through a web browser.
Step 2: Access the web interface on a managed QSW switch (QSS/QSS Pro)
If you confirm that your device is a managed QSW model that runs QSS or QSS Pro (for example, QSW-M1208-8C), use one of the following methods to access the web interface.
Method 1: Access the switch using a web browser
Prepare a supported computer and browser
To access the QSS or QSS Pro web interface, ensure that you have:
- A QNAP QSW managed switch
- A computer connected to the same network as the switch
- A supported web browser, such as:
- Microsoft Edge 42 or later
- Mozilla Firefox 60.0 or later
- Apple Safari 11.1 or later
- Google Chrome 70.0 or later
Ensure the switch has an IP address
QNAP QSW managed switches are configured as DHCP clients by default. When connected to a network with a DHCP server (for example, a router), the switch automatically obtains an IP address.
If your network does not have a DHCP server, the switch does not use a fixed default IP address. To obtain an IP address for the switch, introduce a DHCP server (such as a home router or a small DHCP service) or follow the discovery methods described in the QSS/QSS Pro User Guide.
Open the login page
From a computer on the same network as the switch:
- If you know the switch name, enter it in the browser address bar (for example,
http://example123/), or - Enter the switch IP address in the browser address bar.
- The login page should appear if the device is a managed QSW switch running QSS or QSS Pro and is reachable on the network.
Log in with administrator credentials
Log in using the default administrator credentials (unless they have been changed):
- Default username:
admin - Default password: Refer to the device label or the FAQ What is the default login password for my QSW managed switch?
- After successful login, the Overview page appears.
Method 2: Access the switch using Qfinder Pro
Install Qfinder Pro
Qfinder Pro is a desktop utility that can locate and access QNAP devices on a specific network. It supports Windows, macOS, and Linux.
Discover the switch
Open Qfinder Pro. The utility automatically searches for all QNAP devices on the network. When it detects your QSW managed switch, it lists the device by name and IP address.
Open the web interface
Locate the switch in the Qfinder Pro list, and then double-click the device name or IP address. The switch login page appears in your default browser.
Log in with administrator credentials
Enter the administrator username and password:
- Default username:
admin - Default password: Refer to the device label or the FAQ What is the default login password for my QSW managed switch?
- After successful login, the Overview page appears.
If I still cannot access the web interface
- Verify that the Ethernet cable between your computer and the switch (or between the switch and router) is securely connected.
- Ensure that your computer and the switch are on the same IP subnet.
- Temporarily disable local firewall or security software on your computer and try again.
- If the switch is still not discoverable or the login page does not appear, contact QNAP Technical Support and provide your switch model, firmware version (if known), and a brief description of your network topology and troubleshooting steps.

适用产品
- QNAP QSW switch series (especially scenarios where model names such as QSW-1208-8C and QSW-M1208-8C are easily confused)
