NAS (QTS / QuTS Hero)
Scenario
To protect against malicious attacks, QTS has a built-in IP Blocking mechanism (IP Access Protection). This mechanism automatically blocks the source IP address when repeated incorrect login attempts or suspicious connection behavior are detected, preventing brute force attacks or malicious access to the NAS. A user is unable to access the NAS through the QTS web interface, SSH, or file sharing. It is suspected that the issue may be caused by IP blocking on the NAS.
Possible Causes
The NAS has IP access control enabled, blocking the specific computer.
The computer’s IP address has been added to the NAS blacklist.
Firewall or network security settings are preventing the connection.
Solution
Test with another computer
Try accessing the NAS (QTS web, SSH, or file services) using another device on the same network.
If the other device can connect successfully, the original computer’s IP is likely blocked.
Change the computer’s IP address
Check NAS blacklist settings
Restart the NAS as a last resort
If no devices can connect to the NAS, consider restarting it.
After rebooting, attempt to connect from a different device to verify if IP control was the cause.
How to Prevent Future IP Blocking
Whitelist trusted IPs: Add administrator computers to the whitelist in firewall or network access protection.
Avoid repeated login failures: Multiple failed login attempts may trigger automatic IP blocking.
Review security settings regularly: Periodically check blacklist and firewall rules to ensure admin devices are not mistakenly blocked.
